Kitchen Suppression System Service
We test, service and install restaurant hood fire suppression systems. Per NFPA 17, kitchen suppression systems require inspection and testing every 6 months/semi-annual.
Inspection – We meet insurance and fire authority code requirements with a semi-annual inspection of your suppression system. Well trained and licensed technicians perform a complete inspection of your system that complies with NFPA 17-A standards.
Maintenance – The system is inspected, cleaned and fusible links are changed and we will replace other necessary parts as needed.
Inspection Report – After the inspection, Tyler Fire supplies you with a record of the services performed.
Regularly Scheduled Maintenance – We automatically schedule your service, allowing you to focus on your business.
Fire Extinguisher Maintenance Standards
Fire extinguisher inspection is often put on the back burner even though it plays a vital role in keeping you and your business safe.
Visual Inspections
A staff member must perform a visual inspection to ensure that each extinguisher is accessible and operational at all times. NFPA 10 requires that you inspect the following monthly:
- Extinguishers are in their designated places
- There are no obstructions to access or visibility
- Safety seals are not broken or missing
There is no evidence of physical damage, corrosion, leakage or clogged nozzle - Pressure gauge readings are in the proper range or position
- Operating instructions are legible and facing outward
- Fullness – confirmed by weighing or lifting
Any problems found during the inspection must be corrected.
Additional Maintenance Tests
Six-Year Maintenance
Every six years, stored pressure fire extinguishers that require a 12-year hydrostatic test need to be emptied and put through a thorough examination of mechanical parts, extinguishing agents and expelling means.
Hydrostatic Testing
Hydro tests are completed to ensure the fire extinguisher tank will hold the stored pressure extinguishing agent. The test is performed by filling the container with water or another non-compressible fluid that is compatible with the fire extinguishing container. The container is inspected for potential failure points by increasing the pressure on the container to a point specified by the manufacturer or Federal safety standards. The pressure must be maintained for at least 30 seconds.
Refill or Recharge
A fire extinguisher must have a service collar installed showing the month, year & company that performed the service. The service must be performed by an individual that meets the Statues & Rules of the State of Texas. Holes are punched in the Mo. & Yr. of the service was performed.
Six-Year Maintenance
A Fire Extinguisher shall have a 6YR Maintenance performed by an individual that meets the Statues & Rules of the State of Texas, as seen above. An internal inspection is done at this time and the powder removed and replaced to prevent packing of the powder due to the forces of gravity and vibration. Holes are punched in the 6 YR. MAINT., month & year.
12 Year Maintenance (Hydro)
The 12-year maintenance is a rebuild of the extinguisher. It is commonly known as Hydro. It consists of a Hydrostatic Test that is performed to ensure the integrity of the cylinder & the replacement of internal parts. Holes are punched in the Hydrostatic Test, month, year & test pressure.
Handle, Hose & Gauge Repair
In most cases, these repairs can be made at a lower cost than replacing the extinguisher.
